I have four primary goals when I teach: to inculcate in students an appreciation for and an interest in philosophy; to help students achieve clarity in their thoughts and writing; to facilitate their understanding of the arguments relevant to an issue; and to model respect for others and their ideas.

How this all works depends from class to class. I like to draw examples from popular culture and current events to make philosophical points and, if I were more coordinated, I wouldn’t be above standing on my head to keep the class involved.
